During James' PhD studies, he was embedded as a full time member of the performance department at Warrington Wolves. This role lasted two seasons and James enjoyed winning the league and making both the Challenge cup final at Wembley and the Grand Final at Old Trafford.
James' main roles and responsibilities during this period included:
- Body composition assessment, analysis and tracking throughout the season
- 1-1 consultations with all players
- Develop and refine individualised fuel and recovery plans
- Apply the latest evidence based literature into his practice at all times
- Initiate innovative nutrition solutions for all club players
- Instigated and was part of a team who built a brand new kitchen facility at the club training ground which enabled regular group cooking classes to be delivered
- Provide easy travel nutrition solutions for domestic and international fixtures
- Travel on all home and away fixtures to ensure bespoke match day nutrition strategies are adopted by players
- Liaise and work closely with external hotels and stadiums to ensure
- Closely support injured players through rehabilitation using current literature and creative nutrition strategies
- Manage and control of all supplement and sport food supplies and stock
